Overview

For 1987 the factory updates that produced the Type 87C were matched by rival Lola, to which Rahal switched to win his second consecutive CART-PPG title. March 87Cs carried Michael Andretti to second in the championship for the second year running, followed by Al Unser Jr and Roberto Guerrero.

March 87C race winners that season included Guerrero (Phoenix and Lexington 200s), Al Unser Sr (Indianapolis 500), Michael Andretti (Milwaukee and Miami 200s, Pennsylvania and Michigan 500s), Emerson Fittipaldi (Cleveland and Toronto) and Rick Mears (Pocono 500).

This March 87C is ex-Gary Trout Motorsports, with its composite chassis properly serial-number and inspection plated. The 90-degree turbocharged V8, rated at 700 bhp, drives through a five-speed transaxle. We understand the car was imported into Belgium via Antwerp on 5 December 1989 by Douglas L. Hardwick, USMC (rtd).
